MID WEEK TEASE MAY 4, 2016

MWTease151

Welcome to my Mid Week Tease.  Here is a sample of my latest manuscript Encore: Descendants of Ra Book 4. A little setup: EJ Nicolis doesn’t have his free will. All he can do is listen to Ridley Cross, the woman who has kidnapped his body along with his heart, share thoughts she would never impart if she knew he understood every word.

“I used to watch you. I mean, the Order assigned me as your Watcher.”

Now that piqued his interest. When and where? He wanted details.

Her hand lingered on his arm as she stared into his eyes. “You were in Brazil protecting a diplomat’s kid.”

He remembered that assignment. The teenage son had been a spoiled dick.

“You killed two men who had tried to kidnap him. Double tap between the eyes fifty yards away before they got the kid in a van. No fuss. No mess. Easy clean up.”

EJ remembered. Then he went after the guy who hired them. That had been messy. Took a few days for the bullet hole in his shoulder to heal. Took longer for his mother—AKA Avery—to stop chewing his ass off.

“The kid was a basket case, but the father couldn’t thank you enough. He gave you a pouch with loose uncut diamonds inside. You refused the gift. I always wondered why.”

How could she know that? He remembered the meeting in the private office inside the embassy. Four people were in the room with him, the diplomat, two embassy guards, and a female aide serving coffee and sandwiches. He hadn’t paid the woman much attention other than a cursory glance. Now he wished he had. Maybe then they wouldn’t be on this collision course.

Her finger traced a pattern on his arm, which sent a shot of lust down his spine.

“Boy, you’re easy to talk too…when you can’t answer back.” A dry laugh escaped, and quickly dropped to a sigh. “Never thought I would miss the sound of someone’s voice.” The back of her hand stroked his cheek and slipped under his chin. She leaned closer. So close her breath fanned his lips. So close her amethyst eyes were all he could see.

Damn he wanted to taste her, slide his tongue between her parted lips, and draw her breath into his lungs. Just once, to quiet the question that suddenly needed an answer. He couldn’t move, not without her permission.

The smaller wiser, saner part of his brain raised a red flag and threw out query. After the kiss, then what? Fuck her? Kill her? Both or neither, what’s the game plan? Exit strategy?

Ridley closed her eyes, shook her head, and pulled away to move her food around her plate. He heard the word stupid mumbled under her breath and had to agree. From one to ten, them kissing had to be level fifteen stupid. Yet he’d never claimed to be a rocket scientist. The thought of being stupid with Ridley Cross had his blood humming. He watched as she chowed down her food in record time and push away from the breakfast bar.

“I’m going to check out our loot while you finish eating.” She stomped away.

EJ obeyed the order with gusto until a gasp came from the bedroom, then a strangled scream. “No! Noooo!”

Hello, all! It’s time for another tease from Eternity Descendants of Ra Book 1. I love the moment when the hero and heroine know they love each other, but still can’t admit it. That moment is full of angst and sexual tension, and even though I know how it will turn out, my heart still beats a little faster. Here is one of my favorite teases from Eternity.

Two seats down, a chair scraped along the floor, dragging her attention away. Roman slid into a seat. Shades covered his eyes, but her skin flushed as if caressed by his stare. Dressed in black, he sucked in all the light around him. Cut from the same cloth of the night, he embodied everything dangerous. A man to avoid. So why did her heart lurch, her mouth dry and every joint in her treacherous body loosen. Joy flourished where anger should while she feasted on the man. His once clean-shaven face had days of growth. He looked leaner, meaner.

Damn, he looked good enough to tie to the chair his ass sat on and ride.

“Stella.”

Guttural and deep, his voice touched intimate places, making her ache.  She panted slowly.

“Coffee, please.” Velvety smooth, he purred or did she hear what she desired?

Seconds ago, she barely had the energy to place one foot in front of the other. Now, her hips swayed with purposeful intention as she walked away. She glanced over her shoulder and swore the corner of his sensual mouth curled. Yep.

“Black coffee, the way you like it.” The steaming cup danced slightly in her hand.

“The way I like it? What do you know about what I like?” Gruff voiced, he studied her from his seated position.

“Days ago I knew what you liked.” The words tripped off her tongue. Days ago he spent the night locked between her thighs. The memory tightened her nipples and hollowed her.

Only a cursed man would wait 2000 years for one woman.
For 2,000 years, Roman Nicolis has tracked his lover’s soul through each reincarnation only to lose her horribly every time. Reclaiming their love is their only salvation. He’s been her friend, her father, her neighbor, but never again her lover … until now.

MID WEEK TEASE!!

MWTEASE!

MWTease151

Happy New Year Teasers! 2015 is going to be great. I’m still sharing excerpts of EVERMORE Descendants of Ra Book 3. And my fingers are busy working on ENCORE book 4 of the series.

This excerpt continues where the last one left off…in the bedroom.

Emeline touched his injured shoulder. His muscles spasmed under her fingers. He groaned, a deep throaty sound. Pulled flush against him, he held her close with one hand splayed on her lower back and the other on her neck. His head dropped to her collarbone, then he licked a trail up to her earlobe and sucked. “Don’t. Stop. Touching,” he growled and the sound reverberated within her.

She couldn’t even if she wanted to. Somehow, some way, she had slipped into his mind. Tumbled down the rabbit hole into a tornado of desire and lust, so violent they snatched her up and carried her away. She was lost in a maelstrom and as her core stretched, begging to be filled, and she did not care.

His mouth bruised her lips with the ferocity of his kiss. Tongue, lips, and teeth assaulted her body until nothing mattered except the ecstasy in his arms.

Through the connection of her palm to his scar, she recognized his hunger because it mimicked her own desires. A moan slipped from her, completely lost in the rampant sensation dragging her willingly toward rapture.

She arched, scored his chest with her rigid nipples, and reached for the towel wedged between them.

He grabbed a fistful of her hair, stalling her intention. Breathing ceased to matter as their tongues glided against each other in a sensual duel neither wanted to win. She slid her hand along the rough skin on his arm. Avery dropped back, propping himself up on his elbows. He groaned again, a deep rumbling sound that egged her on. She dipped her head and laved each of his flat nipples, then scraped her short nails along the ridges of his perfect abs.

He palmed her ass and lifted her off his lap. “Yes. Or no. Tell me now.” Desire slurred his words.

Emeline pointed to the nightstand where she found a box of condoms during her snoop session. She didn’t have to explain. With one arm holding her tight to him, he yanked open the top drawer, sending the contents spilling to the carpet.

She giggled and burst into laughter at his scowl. “I’ll get one.” She scooted back and turned onto her hands and knees, giving him a bird’s eye view of her best asset. He grabbed his shirt and ripped. The two halves fell away from her body. His rough hands traced the curves of her back and the globes of her rear as she searched for a foil packet. A purr rumbled deep in her throat, enjoying the intimate caress. His soft kiss on her flesh had her gasping and leaning back for more of his wicked tongue. It’s not often you find a man willing to literally kiss your ass and she relished every delicious second of his lips and tongue.

MidWeekTease2

It’s the holidays and everyone is busy, hopefully not too busy for a sexy Mid Week Tease! When last we spied on Avery and Emeline, they were in bed. She’d said “No. Sex.” But does that still apply after he has taken her to the edge of passion?

Emeline visibly shook in his arms—and inadvertently rubbed her body all over him, nipples scored his chest, her knees rubbed the inside of his thighs. Somehow, he quelled the raging need and simply held her.

“I’m sorry. This is all so much.” Her breath fanned his skin.

This was too much, too soon. She wasn’t ready and he’d just ruined any chance he may have had. “Never apologize for what happens between us or how you feel.”

Her brow quirked and rose with surprise. “Us? Is there an us?”

No. There isn’t. Push her away, his conscience ordered. Avery dropped his hands. He let her go. Tomorrow he would call McIntosh again and hand over her care. But for too many minutes, neither of them moved.

She squared her shoulders and raised her chin. “There’s a lot about me you don’t know.”

And there was a lot he already did. Her secrets couldn’t be worse than his. “Then tell me.”

She pushed her hair out of her face and looked away “…You may not like it,” Emeline murmured.

He smoothed his thumb over her cheek, trailed it to her jaw and down her neck to the vein pulsing wildly. “…Are you a mass murderer?” A sigh stroked his skin, kept his blood humming.

“No. Not lately.”

“I know you don’t abuse the elderly. Don’t know about children, though.” He got her to smile. A warm grin that caused her cheeks to slightly dimple and quelled the churning sea in his soul. He would have another. “Are you a thief?”

“Nope.” She laughed and lay her head on his chest. “I never expected you to have a sense of humor.”

He rubbed her back, touching the shirt instead of her delicious skin. “And I never expected you.”

Her fingernails traced an excruciating pattern on his pecs. If only she would trail lower, to where he needed her touch the most.

“Is it too much to ask for you to hold me? It’s been a long time since someone held me without wanting something.” She sighed.

Anything for this to continue. Carefully, he wrapped himself around her. Seconds stretched. RockGate may be his residence, the loft doubled as his apartment and escape zone, but Emeline—she felt like home.

Soft lips grazed his neck. Then his jaw. He didn’t move, didn’t dare frighten her away. Hands circled his head and brought him to her.

She nuzzled him, brushed her cheek along his neck, and purred. A throaty sound and so damn sexy it took everything he had to remain still.

Forehead to forehead, he gazed into her eyes. “I don’t want anything you’re not willing to give. I’m here. And I’m not going anywhere.” cropped-mediumevermore.jpg

AVERY AND EMELINE GET DIRTY!

One hundred feet to the front door, soon she’d be home free. She dodged the drunks, the stoners, the lovers, the dancers, and had almost made it to the exit when Lincoln stepped into her path.

Emeline rolled her eyes, sucked in a deep breath, but choked when an unexpected laugh erupted. She doubled over, holding her side, from the sudden hysteria carrying her away. “Of course I would run into you. It’s been that kinda night.”

Lincoln didn’t return her humor. He stood there, arms folded over his chest, trying to appear intimidating. “I was going to let you go. Leave you alone to live your life after seeing you at the club. Then you show up here, to see me.” He signaled to the DJ and the music ended. “You miss me, baby? Came to apologize? Kiss and make up? Start on your knees.” He pointed to the hardwood floor.

A circle formed around them. Emeline scanned the crowd, checking for Ridley and the mysterious goddess. Lincoln whistled, snapped his fingers in front her face. “Don’t have all day.”

What did I ever see in this morally bankrupt, egotistical man? Definitely not her finest moment. He opened his pants. Unzipped his fly. Took out his less than impressive, erect dick and stood there with a stupid grin. He chanted ‘knees’ and the crowd joined the chorus. Her blood boiled at him, the drunk crowd, Ridley, Avery, everything. The crowd wanted a show. Tonight, they came to the right place.

With a sultry grin plastered on her face, Emeline clasped his dick. She stroked up from the base, circled the head, and let her hand slide down. Lincoln’s head fell back and he groaned, deep and throaty. Catcalls swept through the room along with flashes from cell phone cameras as he thrust his hips out and began rocking. “You remember how I like it.” He panted.

How he liked it was pretty much how every man liked it and nothing noteworthy to remember. That was Lincoln’s problem; he thought he was special because of his family’s influence and because his genitals dangled.

She’d fallen for it. So what did that say about her standards? Not much, but tonight wasn’t about reminiscing. After what happened to Belinda, Emeline had a taste for vengeance and Lincoln volunteered to be on the menu.

She cupped his balls, rolled them in her hand. He moaned, gave a throaty laugh and high-fived the dude standing next to him.

Yeah, enjoying it bastard? She tightened her hand, ready to strike.

Awareness pricked her senses. Darkness swirled at the edge of her mind, drowning her in waves of fury. She fought it, retreating would allow the sensation to swallow her. Unconscious at Lincoln’s mercy, and the crowd was not an option.

She shook her head to clear the fog—and collided with Avery’s feral glare.

Though her insides squirmed and urged her to tuck tail and run, Emeline couldn’t move. Avery’s furious glare rooted her to the spot. His lips were peeled back and he growled. She actually heard it. Swore she felt the sound reverberate in her chest. He shoved two people out of his way and broke the circle, just as she twisted Lincoln’s junk three hundred and sixty degrees.

He screamed, went up on his tip-toes, “Get her off! Get her off!”

Emeline jabbed her elbow into his throat and the heel of her palm into his nose. His head snapped back, blood gushed and splattered on her. All the while, she kept his dick and balls in a vise grip. A fist from one of Lincoln’s friends came flying at her head.

Avery blocked the blow and tossed the guy into the nearest wall. Another came at him. A quick jab and an uppercut knocked his opponent senseless. “Wanna let go of his shit or do you plan on taking it home for Christmas?” he shouted over the din while putting a guy in a headlock and flinging him into the wall.

“I don’t want this under my tree.” Emeline kicked Lincoln’s knee and released his parts. He collapsed, cradling his crotch. She picked up a bottle of whiskey next to the punch bowl, doused her offending hand, and dried her palm on her jeans.

She hadn’t come here to start a brawl, but—oh well.

MID WEEK TEASE!!! EVERMORE

#MWTease

MidWeekTease2

It’s Wednesday! Happy Hump day! And it’s time for a tease from my upcoming release. Evermore, the third novel in my Descendants of Ra series will be available in October.

Tires squealed to a stop. It wasn’t long before a pair of combat boots came into her line of sight. Strong hands scooped her up and cradled her against a broad chest encased in a leather coat. Warmth surrounded her, made her want to burrow closer to his heat. Male musk and a hint of something else, something dangerous filled her nostrils.

“I got you.” His voice, guttural and so damn sexy, rumbled through her.

No, he was on the hook. And she had just reeled him in. Her teeth chattered from the cold, his heat, her nerves, the lies.

Avery opened the passenger door and carefully sat her on the leather seat. He hit the overhead lights and gently took her chin between his thumb and forefinger. Calloused fingers brushed her hair away and angled her face toward the light.

“Who did this to you?” Low, his voice promised retribution.

“I didn’t get their number.” She tried to pull away, but he wouldn’t let her. His intensity made her insides squirm.

“I’ll take you to the hospital.”

“No.” She touched his hand. “It’s okay, not as bad as it seems.” She wiggled her jaw and managed only a slight grimace.

He leaned closer. All of him filled her vision. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”

Captured by his heated stare, she shook her head.

“How many were there?” His finger trailed over her cheek and down her neck.

Her thoughts kinda fizzled at his touch. “Who are you?” She remembered to ask again. He gave her a quizzical look, possibly thinking of a lie, she wondered. Her phone rang. Emeline fished it out of her purse and answered without looking. She listened to Zackary pound his chest about hiring a bodyguard for her. He was so proud of himself and expected a reward. The sick hope in his voice almost made her laugh.

“Describe him.” She ordered watching Avery.

“Big guy, bald, pissy attitude. I wanted his brother, but he volunteered,” Zachary said.

“Thanks, Zachary. I owe you one.”

“Really? Well—”

She pressed end. “So you’re my bodyguard?” Perfect. Zachary finally did something right.

“Until I get someone else.” He stepped back and slammed the passenger door closed.

Why accept the job only to get someone else? Nerves made her stomach flutter as she watched him walk around the front of the Range Rover and climb into the driver’s seat. “Do you have a name or shall I make up one?”

“Avery,” he said without looking at her. The car rumbled to a start. Something loud and angry blasted from the speakers. He clicked it off, though she didn’t mind. She preferred Hip-Hop, R&B, and a little bit of Rap. No love songs, though Luther Vandross could put the most celibate body in the mood.

“Emeline,” she offered when he didn’t ask. A giggle threatened to escape, but her bruised ribs would have none of it. ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.’ Well we are both, well and truly tangled.

“Something funny?” He pulled into traffic.

He’s observant as a killer or watcher should be. No more lapses. She had to be on guard. Emeline noticed his hands gripping the steering wheel. Big capable hands. “Two men. They wore masks. Tried to steal my purse.” He glanced at the satchel in her lap. Damn, she should’ve insisted they take it.

“Two men, one purse?” His gaze locked on hers. “Why do you need protection, Miss Gamble?”

She hadn’t told him her last name. She could call him on it, but he’d say Zachary told him, so she let it slide. “I don’t. I’m not the one who hired you.”

“Your ex is very concerned about you welfare.”

“You know a lot about me in such a short time, Mr.—what is your last name?” The car rolled to a stop at a red light. His head turned to her and she shifted in her seat to keep an eye on him.

“Nicolis. Your ex filled in a few blank spots before I caught up to you. Anything else you want to know?”

“Yeah. Did he fill you in on where I live too ‘cause we’re real close?”

His eyes narrowed and he glanced at the surrounding area. The light turned green. “Your boss said someone broke into your house. Beat up you and your grandfather. Now you’re attacked on the street. Your enemies, who and where are they?”

She lives in a big house on Riverside Drive. I will take you straight to her. “I don’t have enemies.”

“We all have enemies,” he growled. “Some closer than others.”

Ain’t that the truth.

VIKINGS: Lagertha Lothbok

vikings_history_channel_wallpaper_by_palo90-d5y13hdAt first, I’ve watched Vikings on the History Channel since its debut on 2013 with a bit of wistfulness and nostalgia because it reminded me of Starz’s epic series, Spartacus which ended in 2013.

The comparisons between the two series are numerous: The battles, blood, feuds, death, betrayal, and the politics. The subplots and subterfuge in Vikings were as riveting as what held my attention in Spartacus. Though what solidified the appeal of the show was Lagertha Lothbok, (actress Kathryn Winnick)  Katheryn-Winnick-vikings

wife of Ragnar, a mighty Earl.

Lagertha is a shield maiden, a warrior. She can wield a sword, hoist a shield, and kill without mercy. She is as fierce as any man, and can bring to pain in any battle. She takes no shit from anyone, including her husband who she eventually leaves when he decides the one son they share isn’t enough. Ragnar decides to take a new wife. Lagertha packs up, leaves with her son, remarries, and becomes an Earl herself.

A fitting character arc for a smart, loyal woman who fears only losing her child, and will fight to keep what she has gained. Kathryn Winnick brings her martial arts talents, beauty, and vulnerability to her portrayal of the Lagertha that captures my imagination.

I want to imbue the many facets of Lagertha’s character to my heroines, the value she places on herself, her compassion for Ragnar’s new wife and their children, leadership of her clan, the respect she has earned by being who she is. Kathryn Winnick makes it look easy, hopefully I can do the same.

I anxiously await the third season of this riveting drama. 2015 is too far away.

STARCROSSED

star crossed 4I’ve spent the last few weeks watching STAR CROSSED, the new CW series. It’s the story of a romance between a human girl and an alien boy 10 years after they landed on Earth. The premise is not new; he and others of his kind are integrated into a suburban high school. Boy meets girl, gazes lock across a crowded room, an interest sparks, and then world conspires to keep them apart. Absolutely nothing new there. Even the alien theme isn’t new anymore! It has been done before in Smallville, Mark and Mindy, etc.

But, what first captured my interest was their initial meeting after Roman’s spacecraft crashed in Middle America. (Of course it’s Middle America!) Roman and Emery meet as children, one child aiding the other as soldiers kill the arriving aliens. star crossed 2

Their bond is rekindled after they meet again in high school. Because he’s an alien, Roman lives in an internment camp and is restricted from mingling with humans. Even as a new plan of integration and assimilation is implemented by the government.

After five episodes, you have the predictable storyline of a society torn between their traditions and the new world they are force to live in…and the standard a love triangle. There are political intrigues, both alien and human which gives the series a new and different dynamic. Racism and prejudice against the alien race is poignant, especially as I compare the real world we live in. This all plays out within the angst filled confines of high school, though a large percentage of the cast is in their late twenties and early thirties. I find this particularly funny as there is an abundance of available teenage actors who could have filled the roles.

Of course, Roman and Emery are beautiful Matt Lanter (Roman) has the most soulful eyes. Aimee Teegarden (Emery) is blond and ethereal. God forbid the producers cast an average Joe and Jane! Don’t get me wrong, I love looking at a hot guy as much as the next one… and there are certainly some stunning examples on Star Crossed. Greg Finley (Drake) is a fine example. He’s the one on the left.hot starcrossed

I think I’m hooked on the series and l can’t wait for the rest of the season!

The New Fall Line Up

The New Fall Lineup.

I’m addicted to TV. I know, as a writer we’re supposed to askew TV in favor of a keyboard or pen and paper. But I love and need the escapism television provides, also it rejuvenates my muse.

With this in mind, there are some new fall shows I’m salivating over.

Sleepy Hollow (Fox)

sleepy-hollow1_500x346

Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) partners with Sleepy Hollow’s sheriff (Nicole Beharie) to solve the mysteries of a town ravaged by the battle between good and evil. The writers and producers of Fringe are at the helm of this series so I’m all in! I’m intrigued by the time travel twist and the headless horseman riding around a modern town. Though if I’m not hooked by the third episode the show will be ditched.

This show premiered on Monday September 16th and I was pleasantly surprised. Sleepy Hollow opens with Ichabod beheading a man in battle during the Revolutionary War. He dies and in the next scene we see poor Icahbod—who happens to be a stud—crawling out of an underground grave. There is the usual culture class of revolutionary man meets the modern world, but what really sets this series apart is the death of the town Sheriff in the first fifteen minutes which dumps the entire mystery in the lap of Sheriff Abby Mills. Her suitcases were packed to leave for Quantico and the FBI, but once she gets a gander at the Headless Horse, her plans change. It is refreshing to see an African American woman leading a paranormal series. Abby and Icahbod make and interesting couple and I can’t help wonder if a future romance will grow.

There are twists and turns already brewing in the plot. The Headless Horseman is one of THE HORSEMAN as in the apocalypse horsemen. Abby and her sister are somehow linked to The Horseman, and there are witches.  I plan on staying tuned. What about you?

Almost Human (Fox)

This action-packed buddy cop show is set in a future in which LAPD officers like John Kennex (Karl Urban) are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids like Dorian (Michael Ealy). Fringe‘s J.H. Wyman, who will write, will reteam with Lost‘s J.J. Abrams andBryan Burk as executive producers. This made my list because I love Karl Urban. I first spied him in Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers, but he sealed the deal with my heart in REDS and both Star Trek movies. He’s a wonderful character actor.

Dracula (NBC)

Inspired by the classic Bram Stoker novel, this drama stars The Tudors’ Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the title role. Based on a script from co-executive producer Cole Haddon, this version finds Dracula in London posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. But his true plan — to seek revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries ago. I loved Meyers in The Tudors’ and a new take on Dracula is always welcomed.

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) returns to New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — to reunite with his diabolical former protégé Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). My daughter got me hooked on Vampire Diaries. Though the love triangle plot is tried, I love the bad boys and Klaus is a terrific villain. I’m looking forward to him taking charge in Nawhleans.

I have a few favorites that I can’t wait to return. Top 2 are The Walking Dead in October and Game of Thrones next year. Along with Person of Interest, Supernatural, and The Voice, my TV dance card will be full. As you can see, I lean heavily towards paranormal and fantasy shows.

So what will you be watching this fall?
